Time to step it up a gear

What's next

So now becomes the hard bit. I need to work on new techniques and tastes. I will also be going back and tweaking a few of my recipes to ensure they are pro ready. I hope my guinea pigs are ready.

If there is anything I haven't made and isn't on the list let me know and will get it added..

September Cakes

September was a bit of a quiet month for baking. I was busy with my own birthday and was banned from making my own birthday cake.

Its cool to now receive payment for the baking but still practising to make it better and then go pro.

Septembers Bakes

French Strawberry Tart
These were requested by my French flatmate. They came up to her exacting standards and I was happy to have got them right as I had never made creme patisserie before.

Kats Birthday Cake
This was a friend whose 27th (sorry 21st birthday again) was in the week before my birthday. The requester a very close friend asked for a basic chocolate cake and was overwhelmed by the final result.
This was quite definitely a death by chocolate cake. This cake was a basic milk chocolate cake, with a white chocolate ganache and covered with chocolate shavings.

Bens 7th Birthday
This cake was requested by a work colleague. They asked for a chocolate cake done in Moshi Monsters. Now I know I'm not down with the kids but trying to create something you have never heard of was a task in itself. The entire cake was edible including the tree at the back.

August Cakes

This was a fun month. I got to make some very random creations and let my inner child loose

Micky Mouse Cupcakes
This was the first time I ever used edible paper and they turned out really well. This was a vanilla sponge with a chocolate icing.

Charlie s Birthday cake
This cake was for a very special 3 year old. He loves micky mouse and this was what his mum requested. The face is a vanilla sponge and the ears are chocolate so everyone was accommodated.

Dave's Birthday cake
This cake was for a friends boyfriend. This was my first paid for cake. She asked for a chocolate cake. This cake has creme de cassis to give it a different kick. The icing was an Italian buttercream. I did not know how  much work that was going to take but it turned out fantastic and went down a treat.

El Pirate's Cake
This was actually from August 2011 but I couldn't find the one I did this year. This was a chocolate (bottom layer) and coffee and walnut (top tier)

In the beginning....

So this is where the business venture started from. I also made something for the team but it escalated from this point. I used the baking as a way of cooking without actually eating it. It all looked too pretty to eat.

Afternoon tea- May
So the picture above shows the afternoon tea selection. The team asked for afternoon team and the choices was up to me. I made coconut macaroons, strawberry shortbread, scones, a lighter carrot cake and the teams favourite coffee and walnut cake. I also made strawberry and blueberry jam to accompany the shortbread and scones. I did purchase clotted cream as I wouldn't know where to start with making that.

 Hangbo's Cake
This is the ultimate death by chocolate cake. If you are way diet conscious this is not the cake of choice. It went down well but with caramel and chocolate icing you cant really go wrong.

Dan's Graduation cake.
This cake was for my flatmate who was graduating from the arts. I had been previously tasked with making a rainbow cake and this was the perfect opportunity to make it. The cake had to be held upright with straws as dowels as it was so big.

Trish's Birthday cake
This cake was for a dear friend. She wanted just a plain and simple cake which meant I went to town on decorating it. The flowers are all edible and it disappeared very quickly.
